USING TECHNOLOGY TO PROMOTE TECHNOLOGY
The Halton District School Board is a leader in the promotion of the skilled trades and technology education. But 2021 poses a challenge – how do you talk about the trades with students and parents when traditional events like exhibitions and on-campus information evenings are prohibited?
Like everything else this year, you do it remotely and so Blueprint created a website that hosted more than 20,000 grade 7 & 8 students for a virtual fair. The site had three purposes:
- To have information about the trades that students can explore before and after the event
- To host more than 40 individual sessions (set up with the Board’s Meets account) where students could interact with employees in various skilled trades fields
- To provide access to learning materials that students and their teachers can use to further their understanding of the trades.
Using embedded video and graphics, the site held the attention of these senior elementary students. That’s a skilled trade on its own!
